Description
A stress-free, crowd-pleasing game day appetizer featuring plump Little Smokies simmered in a sticky, sweet, and smoky honey BBQ glaze. This slow cooker recipe requires zero active cooking time and delivers maximum flavor with minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Little Smokies (mini smoked sausages)
- 2 cups thick BBQ sauce (e.g., Sweet Baby Ray’s)
- 1/2 cup runny honey
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced finely
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Dice the yellow onion finely and set aside.
- Pour the BBQ sauce into the bottom of a 4-6 quart slow cooker.
- Add the honey and ground mustard to the sauce; stir until the honey is mostly dissolved.
- Add the diced onion and red pepper flakes to the sauce; stir to combine.
- Add the Little Smokies to the slow cooker and gently stir to coat them in the sauce.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 2-3 hours until sausages are plump and sauce is bubbling.
- Stir well before serving. Keep on ‘Warm’ setting for parties, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Serve immediately with toothpicks.
Notes
Do not cook on HIGH heat as it may cause the honey to burn or separate. Stir the mixture once an hour if leaving on ‘Warm’ for extended periods to prevent scorching. For a thicker sauce, cook for an extra 30 minutes or add a cornstarch slurry in the last 15 minutes. If the sauce is too sweet, add a splash of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice.
